I am pleased that you are looking for music classes for your child. At Mary's Musikgarten classes are offered for newborns through 9 year olds. The Musikgarten classes offered at Mary's Musikgarten are designed to nurture a child's music aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities that help with ear, vocal, and rhythmic development. Instrumental activities are also part of the program, ranging from playing simple rhythm instruments such as sticks and drums for babies and toddlers to playing keyboards for older children. WHY MUSIKGARTEN? Musikgarten is the only music curricula that offers music classes for newborns through group piano instruction. It is music program with developmentally appropriate activities written by internationally acclaimed early childhood music leaders. The Musikgarten programs awaken and develop your child's inborn joy and talent for making music. Beginning with Family Music for Babies and continuing through Music Makers At the Keyboard, your child steps across that important bridge from general music learning to instrumental skill. DIRECTOR /TEACHER Mary Gunderson has been teaching early childhood music and piano lessons since 1996. She has the Level l certification with the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association and is recognized by MUSIKGARTEN for completion of all levels of training. Mary is also on the staff of Christ Lutheran Church as the Director of Children's Music and volunteers in teaching music to the children in the REACH preschool program of the Roanoke City schools. CLASSES OFFERED AT MARY'S MUSIKGARTEN - Family Music for Babies (newborn to 16 months) - Family Music for Toddlers (16 months to 3 years) - Cycle of Seasons ( 3 to 5 years) - Music Makers: At Home in the World (4 to 7 years) - Music Makers II: Around the World (5 to 8 years) - Music Makers: At the Keyboard I and II (6 to 9 years) CLASS SCHEDULE AND LOCATION All classes are on two 15 week semesters except Family Music for Babies which has 12 week semesters. The fall semester begins in September and the spring semester at the end of January. Except for Keyboard I and II, all classes are taught on Mondays at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church on the third floor. My daughter started music class with Miss Mary at the age of 18 months in the toddler class, and she enjoyed every minute of it! They sing, dance, make music with instruments, clap and explore in a free and engaging way. This is the fourth year for us and we plan to take advantage of this great developmental program that builds on ideas and skills taught every year. Now my daughter is drawing notes and gets an introduction of writing and reading music. We plan to stay here, learn and grow with this program and be part of the keyboard class one day.
